Five ways to pamper yourself this festive season

Tis the season to be jolly. Oh yes it is!

But even if we really love Christmas, the problem is that it’s a very busy time and we can end up feeling absolutely exhausted. So this festive season, why not make time to pamper yourself. Easier said than done, we know, but we have put together a few ideas that help you to make the most of whatever time you can find, even if it’s only a few minutes.

And the good news is that they all work on a very tight budget.

Relax in a home spa hour

If you’d love a day at a spa, but don’t have the time or the money, then make your own spa experience at home.

First of all, find a time when you can do this. It may be an evening when the kids are in bed, or a daytime when they are either at school or can be looked after by someone else for a couple of hours.

Then do as many of the following as you want to and can fit into the time you have available:

  • A long hot bath, with bath oils, candles and soothing music;
  • A hair mask and/or face mask;
  • A manicure and/or pedicure;
  • Lots of your favourite body lotion to massage in afterwards.

Indulge in a feel good film

It’s up to you whether you do this on your own or with other family members there. So the timing may vary accordingly. But the rule is it’s your film: your choice. Make sure you have the best seat in the house so that you will be nice and comfortable. Then line up all your favourite drinks and snacks. And turn your phone off to minimise the chance of disruption.

Then all you need to do is sit back and enjoy the show.

Enjoy a Christmas romance

There’s something wonderfully cosy about reading an uplifting book on a cold dark night. Especially if it’s a Christmas romance. So take a browse through your local library, or charity shops, or Amazon: if you have Prime or Kindle unlimited membership there are many free reads available.

Choose your book, make sure you have a nice drink in your hand, and read away to your heart’s content.

Breathe in the air

Nothing can lift our spirits and clear our heads like some crisp fresh air. So why not treat yourself to a nice long walk. You may want to do this with family or friends, but walking alone can also be very therapeutic and a great opportunity to recharge your batteries.

We guarantee you will come back feeling energised and refreshed. So much so, that you may decide to try and make your walk a regular habit from now on.

Create something just for you

Taking time to put your creativity into action can really give you a boost. Even though you may immediately protest that you are not a creative person, there will definitely be some element of creativity that you enjoy.

For example:

  • Arranging flowers.
  • Drawing or painting pictures.
  • Writing stories, poetry or inspirational words.
  • Writing and/or playing music.
  • Baking cakes.
  • Making jewellery.
  • Sewing, knitting or crochet.
  • Photography.

Take some time to do whatever you love to do. And make it just for you. Creativity can often be spoiled by a sense of competitiveness. This is not helped by social media, with people posting images of everything they do. The less confident can feel it’s not worth creating anything because everyone else can do it much better anyway. But make your creativity your secret pleasure. It doesn’t have to be shared with anyone else unless you really want to. Think of it primarily as your gift to yourself.

We hope that this article has given you some ideas as to how to pamper yourself over the festive season. It’s important to take time out for your own priorities as this will enable you to recharge your batteries rather than being run ragged trying to please everyone else.
